Bonn: Birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and a United Nations City

Bonn is the German city of the United Nations. More than 20 organisations have their headquarters here at the UN Campus in the immediate vicinity of the World Conference Center Bonn. Under the heading "UN in Bonn - for sustainable development worldwide", the United Nations has given itself a thematic umbrella in Bonn.

The UN organisations and numerous international organisations based in Bonn focus on sustainability, especially in the areas of environment and development. As a conference venue, Bonn stands for sustainability topics ranging from climate to early warning to biodiversity.

Even the Romans liked Bonn. Much has happened in the city's 2000-year history and the traces of the centuries make Bonn a colourful city. Today Bonn is a location for future technologies, a lively university city and science centre, the seat of six federal ministries and numerous internationally active organisations. The birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven is also a metropolis of art and culture with top-class exhibitions and concerts. The Beethovenfest Bonn is one of the oldest and most important music festivals in Germany.

The Delight of Writers and Thinkers

The "Romantic Rhine" has been fascinating people for centuries. And today people are still enthralled by steep cliffs, wooded slopes, terraced vineyards, castles and small medieval towns. And Bonn has even more scenery to offer: The winegrowing region of Ahrtal and the idyllic Siegaue natural reserve invite visitors to take part in exciting programmes of events.
